TribeOne Dinokeng Festival was suppose to be a concert festival that was to be held from September 26-28, 2014. It was going to be a festival that would be billed "Africa's biggest festival" with over 150 artists performing on three main stages. Nicki Minaj was suppose to be one of the headliners of the festival performing on September 28 on the festival's Diamond stage. However the promoters and sponsors of the event felt that the project was rushed, and it did not have the cost to continued the project.
Controversy with MinajEdit
After the announcement that the event was cancelled, The ANCYL (ANC Youth League) made a personal appeal to Nicki Minaj that she pay back the R10 million deposit (which is equivalent to around 900K in US dollars) that she was paid in full to perform at the event. Apparently the deposit was non-refundable which means she doesn't have to pay it back, but the mayor of Tshwane said that in the contract if she or any other artist failed to perform they would have to give the money. If Minaj returned the money or not, has not been confirmed.
