Nicki is a yet to be released sitcom, Originally intended to premiere sometime in 2016. However it was cancelled. Nicki Minaj would executive produce and appear in the show, which will air on Freeform.[1] Kate Angelo is slated to write the series.[1]

Premise[]

The series will portray Minaj's upbringing in the 1990s with a "vibrant immigrant family" as well as her "eventual rise to stardom."[2] It is unclear if the show will be autobiographical, semi-autobiographical, or fictitious, as the names of Minaj's family members stated in the cast announcement are different from her family's real names.

Development and Production[]

In her 2014 V magazine interview, Minaj confirmed that she was working on a TV production that she knew her fans would be excited about. In her 2015 Billboard interview, she confirmed this again. On September 29, 2015, Minaj confirmed that the program would be about her childhood and eventual rise to stardom.[1]

On December 18, 2015, Minaj announced that the series was to be titled Nicki as well as announcing the principle cast members.[3]

The series is set to be a 30 minute, single camera comedy.
