The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually, and they are broadcast live on BET. BET commissioned Artist/Sculptor and Hip Hop culture icon Carlos Mare139 Rodriguez to design the Award sculpture. Global promotion is provided by Mac & Diva Entertainment.^[1] The 2012 awards was held on July 1, 2012 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Nicki was nominated for 2 awards, and won one of the nominations.

Nicki Minaj performanceEdit

Nicki Minaj performed at the BET Awards on July 1, 2012. She performed "Champion" and "Beez in the Trap" with 2 Chainz (her third single overall).

The performance received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Kazeem Famuyide of Hip-Hop Wired call the performance a "glorious cakes touched down on the stage".^[2] Perez Hilton comment that her performance was "amazing" and that she "rocked friggin' socks off". Perez later comment that he no wonder why she keeps winning all the awards and call her "one of the best".^[3]

Billboard comment negative about Minaj's performance naming it a "low point [of the show]". Billboard complain about the "foul language and obscenities" that Minaj said.^[4]
